cake trio for Do You Take (working title) performance
Directed by Michael Portnoy and Kathleen Taylor
Real and unreal cake trio part of a wedding performance, as both food & props.
For this performance I had to get acquainted with heaps of styrofoam and whip plaster into fake frostings and baroque moldings to creat the illusion of a three tear classical wedding cake sturdy enough to accommodate all sudden movement so beautifully executed by Nnamdi Nwagwu. Dive deep into our community garden for mossy material, twigs & inspiration to accompany Kathleen’s “woman of the woods” wild moment in an attempt to capture a combination of forestry lichen textures and Great Expectations’s Miss Havisham’s decaying marital bouffet, a little bit edible, a lot more unkemped. And last but not least, the real wedding cake: a 2m and 34cm (to be precise) rhum soaked-black-forrest-and-sour-cherries affair, dressed in white fondant and decorated with edible flowers.
