This dinner invited participants to explore their food habits, bringing to their attention topics harder to swallow in a humorous and playful way. Food rationing during communism was restrictive but led to โ€œcreativeโ€ solutions that transgressed the limit of โ€œeating just for fuelโ€. With limited access to products, people often resort to inventive methods to put food on the table. So I invited our guests to play along, make exchanges, collaborate and question the way we eat now. Each course was inspired by a staple dish from a post-communist country of personal significance. For this dinner, I collaborated with ๐˜๐˜ข๐˜ซ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ - an initiative to bring Polish cuisine and all things around the table to Rotterdam, merging with a fitting Chinese starter by artist & collaborator ๐˜‘๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ ๐˜ถ, and a Romanian Funeral dessert.

The dinner was accompanied by a screening that contextualized the food exchanges. The movie, ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—บ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—š๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—”๐—ด๐—ฒ (๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿต) I ๐˜ฅ๐˜ช๐˜ณ. ๐˜๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ ๐˜๐˜ฐ๐˜ง๐˜ง๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ, ๐˜™๐˜ขฬ†๐˜ป๐˜ท๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜”๐˜ขฬ†๐˜ณ๐˜ค๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ค๐˜ถ, ๐˜Š๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜”๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜จ๐˜ช๐˜ถ. was a multi-episode collection of vignettes comically unseating the propagandist myth that Ceauศ™escu's Romania was the โ€œgolden ageโ€ of communism, by focusing on day-to-day life under the dictatorship to warm and often hilarious effect that could well stir up strong nostalgia and bewilderment in all the post-communist nations.

The music that followed the screening was carefully curated by Psycho Club and helped take us deeper into this experience.
