WE play Hide & Seek. WORM 25
Taking on the idea of childhood games, hiding and seeking - whether for the food, the entertainment or the dining room I hosted a playground evening of exploration, filled with comfort foods, live music and a little bit of “hunting” for your meal. The food was again a nostalgic throwback to my childhood in Transylvania, with the freshly released Zacuscă as a starter (packed in vacuum-sealed bags and hidden throughout Wunderbar), Veggieballs with mashed potatoes and red sauce as the main, and an autumn-spiced rice pudding for dessert. Guests were invited to serve each other, which led to a highly entertaining amount of chaos that involved mixing courses and serving with sand toys. The table set-up included play-dough, squirt guns, and games of tic-tac-toe drawn on the “tablecloth”(which by the end became a unifying canvas of drawings and scores), and was sprinkled with small treats like glow-in-the-dark rings and chocolate coins (to up the stakes of your tic-tac-toe), magic rainbow circles, crayons and balloon bubbles. Sand toys served as dessert plates, which turned into serving tools themselves for the more creative guests. The whole experience looked & felt a lot like a children’s B-day Party, and for good reason, as it was part of the month-long celebration of @worm_rotterdam’s 25th B-day. The dinner was accompanied by live band @_b_o_a_t_s setting the mood with their experimental, improvised and highly whimsical set, which blended into the general atmosphere. This experience reinforces my belief that we are all just children trapped in adult bodies, just waiting for a chance to play, throw play-dough at each other, fill the squirt guns with the drinking water, colour the tablecloth, write on the plates, one step away from a food fight.
